The Chalmer's and Rice's Shop
The very first shop in Bungaree was the Chalmers Shop. It was built on the corner of the Melbourne Road and Lester's Road. Later the police station was built next to it. We do not know much about the shop because there is no one alive today who remembers it.
By 1911, the Chalmer's Shop had became Rice's General Store.
As you can read on the newspaper clipping, Rice's shop sold all kinds of goods and would "deliver anywhere in the Commonwealth." They delivered with horse and carts. They specialised in spuds as they "had the pick of the finest districts in Victoria."
