Archaeological Survey of Bungaree Police Station
On Friday the 23rd of October, 2015, the senior kids of the Bungaree Primary School went down to the old Bungaree police site on the corner of Bungaree-Wallace Road and Lester’s road.
We split up into 3 groups to spray paint where everything was. One group had to find where the truck crashed. The second group looked at where all the chimneys, water tank and the lock up were. And, my group studied where the police office and the police house used to be.
My group found lots of clues. One clue we found was where the office was (it was tiny). That helped us find where the house was. We found more clues like the path to the front door, where the back door was, old garden beds and we worked out where the chimneys would have been (but we were not allowed to dig and check as it is a heritage site).
Then the next Friday our class (5-6) went down again to draw a map of the site because eventually the spray paint will wear off. This time we split up into boys and girls and the boys did a map of the chimney and water tank and lock up, and the girls did a map of the office, house and where the truck crashed.
When we finished that we went over to the Sheppard’s house over the road to look at the old lock up. The door was really small and heavy. Mrs Sheppard told us the door was small so only one person could fit though at a time. The lock up was tiny and I don’t know how everyone fitted in there. This lock up wasn’t the same as the one at the police station, however (we first thought it was). The one on the police station site looks different on the photo.
I had fun down at the police station!!!
