Special Wadawurrung Sites around Bungaree
by Campbell and Will.
Around Bungaree there are quite a lot of special sites that the Aboriginals used before the white people came. The Aboriginals of this area are from the Wadawurrung tribe.

There is a scar tree at the Lal Lal Falls. The aborigines used to cut wood off a tree to make a canoe or a coolamon. By doing this they left a scar in the tree which we can still see today.

There are a few corroboree sites in the area. One site is near Gordon and in someone's backyard. They are not allowed to build a house on it as it is special to the Wadawurrungs.
Another site is on the road between Mt Egerton and Lal Lal. On this road there is a creek called Blackman's Creek. It is called this because the Aboriginals would camp along it.

This is Black Hill in Gordon. It is called Black Hill because black people used to live on it. The Wadawurrung people call it Kirrit Barreet. This hill is in Bunjil's Dreamtime story.
