The Bungaree Football Club
Information adapted from the book, "Bungaree Football Club History, 1905 - 1993".
Bungaree has a proud tradition with its football club. Over the years players have been referred to as 'the savages from Bungaree'. The club has raised some players who have gone onto other leagues, but have always remained as favourite sons.

The furthest back record of the club was in 1905. Before that Bungaree had a Hurling team (the Bungaree hurling team even beating NSW in 1905). Hurling is an ancient Gaelic game, similar to Gaelic football, but played with a stick and ball.
The earliest report found of a Bungaree footy club was in 1905 when they were known as the Bungaree Rovers. Some of the teams they played include Dunnstown, Warrenheip, Leigh Creek, Bullarook, Clarks Hill, Egerton Imperials, Ormond (which was in the Springbank area), and a team known as 'The Farmers'.

The many Bungaree Footy Ovals
The current oval has been used for sport since 1886. However footy has been played on ovals on Billy Burke's property in Leigh Creek - one next to Ted Cass' home and one on Black Swamp Road. Footy has also been played on Frawley's paddock on the Kyral Castle Road, Hanrahan's paddock, Bill O'Donohue's paddock, on the McClymont's property - which is opposite the oval on Lester's Road, and another west of the Bungaree Store (known as Windy Hill).
The present oval complex was opened in 1965 with a game against Springbank.
