The Things the Shops Sold.
The shops sold lots of different things in the old days to what the General Store sells today. Some of the things the shops sold in the olden days were groceries, shoes and even clothes. Everything came in tins instead of packets, or else was sold 'loose' in drums. Click below to hear Mr Rix describe some of the things the shops sold.
Mrs Devereux told us about what the shops sold in the olden days. Lots of the food was kept in bins and the shopkeeper filled up small bags for the shopper to take home. Click the arrow below to hear about it.
The General Store today.
Today the only shop left is the Top Shop. It is run by Rod and Kerry Holt. They bought the shop off Ted Cass. They sell lots of things and provide lots of services for the town. Some of these include:
- The Post Office
- Hot lunches and fresh fruit for the school.
- An automatic teller machine
- A mobile coffee trailer
